Making a Square Shape with Peyote

Row 1

When we make a square, we first create a loop and bead off that. On this shape we will start with a loop of 4 beads.

Row 1 Make a Loop A

Note: I am colouring the start bead of each row in pink to help guide you.

Row 2

We are now working around the loop in an anti clockwise direction.

Row 2 A
4

Very Important: When you have added the last bead in row, your needle and thread will be extending from the last bead you picked up in loop. Continue up into the first bead in this row, ready to start the next row as shown.

Row 3

On this row we will now add some increases. We do this by picking up 2 beads (AA) instead of 1 (A).

After each bead picked up go through the Next bead of Row 2. Beads to pick up are:

Row 3 AA
4

Remember at the end of the row to go through the first bead in row, as shown:

Row 4

As we increased on Row 3 we now have more beads in the previous row.

We will now add another increase. After each bead picked up go through the Next bead of Row 3. Beads to pick up are:

Row 4 AA A AA A AA A AA A
1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1

Remember from the increasing/decreasing section all beads on previous row are treated the same, regardless of how they have been picked up.

At the end of the row to go through the first bead in row, as shown:

Row 5

As we increased on Row 4 we now have more beads in the previous row.

After each bead picked up go through the Next bead of Row 4. Beads to pick up are:

Row 5 A
12

After each bead picked up go through the Next bead of Row 4.

Remember at the end of the row to go through the first bead in row, as shown:
