The Gonk (also called Tomte or Gnomes) originates from the tales of gnomes and hobgoblins in Scandinavian and Nordic mythology. It is said that if your gonk likes you, he will protect you with magic and bring good fortune. If you disrespect him or his home he will become angry and cause mischief by playing tricks on you to make you unhappy. So it’s very important to look after your gonks and cherish them!
Although not specifically related to Christmas it became tradition to offer the gonk some porridge during the winter solstice, including them in the festivities, and so over time they have become more and more associated with Christmas.
It’s a Gonk World box shows you a glimpse into a Gonks world as they are getting ready for Christmas, one is decorating their house and tree whilst another is building a Gonk snowman. But … be sure to check the box carefully and see if you can spot any more.
On top of the box is a 3D Gonk in a fetching purple hat and green body. He looks like he is a very happy Gonk as he has lots of presents, so no mischief from him today! You can also bead the 3D Gonk separately to give as a gift. Try making them in all sorts of different colours from your stash.
In this pattern we give full detailed photographic and graphic instructions, and there are 132 detailed steps, making this pattern even suitable for beginners to beading.
This bead pattern is made using Japanese Miyuki size 11 Delica. Round Peyote stitch is used but full detailed instructions are given, and no previous knowledge of the stitch is required. Please note the pattern may not work with any other size and type of beads.
There are 21 delica colours in total and the finished beadwork is approximately 9cm (h) x 5cm(w).
1 x 6mm Fire Polished Crystal AB bead is also required.
